Wordpress has two types of content you can publish, Pages and Posts. Posts are what you are thinking of when you think of articles or blog posts. They are associated with the author and include the date they are posted.
Start a New Article
To get started posting a new article, log into your website and select Posts from the left-side bar.
This page is where you can see all your existing posts and start a new one. Click Add New in the side bar or the button at the top of the page.
Writing your Article
In the new post page you can add a Title and the body by selecting the text boxes as seen below.
If you already have the article written for your paper, you can Copy and Paste the body of the article into the body section of the website post. Note: This works best if you post from a Microsoft Word document.
Adding Images
If you want to add images or other content into your post, you can do so by selecting the + icon in the body section where you want the content to be placed. If you have already pasted your article in, you can hover your mouse between paragraphs or select the end of a paragraph and hit Enter/Return to add a new line which will also give you the option to insert media content.
Note: In wordpress, each section (paragraph, header, image, other) is called a "block". You use these different blocks to build your post kind of like building with lego blocks.
Configure Article Categories + Settings
Once you have the content of your article ready to publish, you have a couple options to set. You will want to set the following:
- Status & Visibility
- The Publish option in this tab lets you choose to publish now or schedule your article to be posted a different day/time.
- Category
- Tags
- Featured Image (Optional, If you have an image you want to use)
- Discussion (Comments)
Click through each of these tabs (seen below) and make any selections that are appropriate. If you dont see these options in the side bar, make sure you select the settings gear at the top next to the blue Publish button.
Ready to Publish
Now you are ready to hit that blue Publish button at the top!
